The owner-as-router problem

When every decision routes through one person, that person is the ceiling.

In most growing service businesses, the owner is the router. They decide who handles what, they unblock the stuck things, they are the fallback whenever a process has a gap. It works, and it is exactly what stops the business from getting bigger.

The ceiling is made of good intentions

Being the router feels responsible. Nothing important happens without you, which means nothing important goes badly wrong. But it also means the business can only move as fast as you can answer, and it cannot grow past the number of decisions you can personally make in a day.

If the business routes through you, you are not running it. You are the bottleneck it has to grow past.

The fix is not to care less. It is to move the routing into the system: clear rules for what goes where, AI handling the first pass, and your attention reserved for the decisions that genuinely need you. The goal is a business that keeps moving on the days you are not in the room.
